Academic and Institutional Research for LAC and CARP
The Office of Academic and Institutional Research (AIR) conducted a study in November 2014 that analyzed the impact that the LAC and CARP had on SF State student grades in a number of mathematics and writing courses. The study focused on a sample of students who had similar SAT scores for the math and/or verbal sections. Within this sample of students, the Office of AIR compared the mean grades of students who received tutoring in comparison to the grades of students who did not receive tutoring. The Office of AIR found that there was a lack of statistically significant differences between the mean grades for students who received tutoring and the mean grades for students who did not receive tutoring. Based on these results, the Office of AIR indicated that the LAC and CARP had a successful impact on student grades.
